REST is Part of The Program
Here’s something you might not expect me to say:
One of the most powerful things you can do for your health has nothing to do with food or exercise.
It’s REST!!
As we head into winter and the days get shorter, our bodies naturally crave more downtime too. But so many of us fight it. We push harder, stay up later and tell ourselves we’ll rest “when things slow down.”
But we have to remember - rest is not a luxury, it’s a biological need. When we ignore that need, our hormones, energy and mood pay the price. Rest is where the body repairs, the mind resets and our emotions find space to breathe…
So instead of resisting rest - what if you leaned in a little more and prioritized it a little more?
Start with creating a simple evening rhythm that supports your nervous system and signals to your body that it’s safe to slow down. Here are a few ideas to implement…
Swap screens for a book or journal before bed.
The blue light and stimulation from your phone or TV can delay melatonin and keep your mind racing long after you’ve turned the lights off.
Sip herbal tea instead of wine or coffee late in the day.
Warm, caffeine-free options like chamomile, pepperminit or lemon balm can help calm your body and soothe digestion before sleep.
Create a cozy nighttime ritual.
Dim the lights, light a candle, wrap up in a soft blanket and take five quiet minutes for gratitude journaling. The act of reflection slows your thoughts and helps you release the day.
This simple shift can change everything from your energy and clarity to your resilience and capacity for joy.
So much of the wellness space can feel like an overwhelming amount of information. But the SIMPLE things, implemented consistently over time, are what matter the most.
Here’s to protecting your rest and prioritizing more calm and peace -
because overall, REST is a part of the program!
